ARTIST’S STATEMENT

My paintings capture the tenuous, strange, palpable and quiet moments of the every day, I isolate subject, place and time by using translucent paint washes and drawing techniques that via application and materiality freeze frame my images like fleeting memories.  I paint from film stills found from soap operas as to me they are the substitutes of lived moments in today’s culture.

I use abstract areas in my canvases. I try to explore how deliberate abstraction can serve to the figurative and the construction of the mood in the painting.  The other phenomena happening with the conjunction of abstract and figurative is that it allows one to separate himself/herself from the representation and become aware of the surface of the painting.
